Game Scores

Jason Marquis pitched a great game today. His game score (based upon the Bill James developed formula) today was 76.
The previous 3 game scores (all in wins were):

Jeff Weaver – 53.3 (at the Dodgers, 7/22)
Jeff Suppan – 66 (at the Dodgers, 7/21)
Chris Carpenter – 65 (at home, versus Braves, 7/19)

The top game score in the history of baseball is 105, thrown by Kerry Wood (believe it or not!) in his 20 K performance versus the Astros on 5/6/1998. He gave up only 1 hit, and 0 BB.

Today, Jason pitched 8 shutout innings, gave up 4 hits, walked none, and struck out 2. It was probably due more to the opponent, than great skill on Jason’s part, but a very good game nonetheless.

The Cardinals also swept the season series versus the Dodgers, the first time that has happened in the history of these two great franchises.
